ALZpath, Inc., a leading developer of innovative diagnostic tools for Alzheimer’s disease, today announced a licensing agreement with global medtech company Siemens Healthineers aimed at broadening access to blood-based diagnostic testing for Alzheimer’s. The partnership represents a major step toward more scalable and accessible detection of neurodegenerative diseases worldwide.
Under the agreement, Siemens Healthineers will license ALZpath’s proprietary pTau217 antibody for use in developing a pTau217 assay on its Atellica® immunoassay systems. This assay will become part of Siemens Healthineers’ growing menu of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) solutions for Alzheimer’s, enabling deployment across clinical laboratories around the world.
“With dementia rates rising globally, accessible and accurate diagnostics are more important than ever,” said [ALZpath spokesperson]. “Our collaboration with Siemens Healthineers will help bring a scalable, blood-based test to healthcare systems, reducing reliance on costly and invasive traditional methods.”
Blood-based diagnostics are emerging as a transformative approach in Alzheimer’s care. While PET imaging and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis remain highly accurate, their cost, invasiveness, and infrastructure requirements limit broad adoption. ALZpath’s pTau217 antibody allows sensitive detection of Alzheimer’s disease pathology from a standard blood sample, with performance comparable to PET and CSF testing but with far greater scalability for routine laboratory workflows.
Supported by more than 90 peer-reviewed studies, pTau217 is one of the most clinically validated blood-based biomarkers in Alzheimer’s diagnostics. Its use enables earlier identification of patients, better monitoring of therapeutic response, and the generation of robust evidence to accelerate new treatment development.
ALZpath’s work has earned industry recognition, including being named “Diagnostics Innovation of the Year” by BioTech Breakthrough, highlighting the global impact of the company’s proprietary pTau217 antibody in advancing earlier and more accessible Alzheimer’s detection.
“Partnering with Siemens Healthineers allows us to bring this groundbreaking technology to laboratories worldwide, helping clinicians detect Alzheimer’s earlier and more efficiently than ever before,” said [Siemens Healthineers spokesperson].
The pTau217 antibody is already integrated into multiple commercially available blood-based tests, demonstrating strong accuracy, sensitivity, and reproducibility in detecting phosphorylated tau, a hallmark biomarker of Alzheimer’s disease, even before clinical symptoms emerge.
